Damage

No one wants to cause damage, but it can always happen. This may include scratches, dents, windscreen damage, a flat tire, damage while parking or reversing, overhead damage (for example when hitting a bridge or roof), theft or total loss.

Whether it’s a small moment of inattention or damage caused by another party, it’s important to know what to do and what to expect. On this page, we explain everything step by step.

What to do in case of damage?

Have you caused damage or has damage occurred involving another party? Follow these steps:

1. Complete a damage report form
In the event of an accident involving the rental vehicle, always complete a damage report form together with the other party (front and back). This is required by insurers to handle the claim. You can find the form in the glove compartment or online via: mobielschademelden.nl.

Important:
• The form must be signed by both parties
• Only sign the form if you agree with its contents

2. Report the damage to DIKS
Contact the pick-up location by phone as soon as possible to report the damage and submit the completed form.

Important:
• Private rental: submit within 24 hours
• Business rental: submit within 48 hours

Damage and costs

All DIKS vehicles are covered by a standard insurance, including third-party liability (TPL), collision damage waiver (CDW), theft protection and 24/7 roadside assistance. This basic insurance is included in the rental price and covers damage caused to third parties.

In the event of damage to the rental vehicle or theft, you will always first be responsible for paying the agreed excess per incident, as stated in the rental agreement and in accordance with the applicable BOVAG rental conditions. In most cases, the following applies:

• You pay a maximum of the agreed excess per damage incident
• If the damage is lower than the excess, you only pay the actual damage amount
• If the damage can be fully recovered from an identifiable third party, you pay nothing

The amount of the excess depends on the selected insurance package, vehicle category and your age. During the booking process, you will see exactly which excess applies and which options are available to reduce or waive it.

Additional insurance

Would you like to reduce your financial risk? During the booking process, you can choose an additional insurance package. This allows you to reduce or, where possible, fully waive the excess. The available options may vary per vehicle. During booking, you will see exactly which options and conditions apply.

When does a higher excess apply?

For the Basic and Comfort insurance packages, a different (increased) deductible may apply in the situations listed below, in accordance with the BOVAG rental terms. With the Carefree package, these damages are covered and no deductible applies.

Overhead damage

If the damage occurs above 1.90 metres, it is considered overhead damage. In this case, a higher excess applies in accordance with the BOVAG rental conditions.

• Private rental: maximum excess €1,500
• Business rental: maximum excess €5,000

Damage while reversing or parking

A higher excess also applies to damage caused while reversing or during parking manoeuvres.

• Private rental: maximum excess €1,500
• Business rental: maximum excess €2,500

Please note: coverage and the amount of the deductible may vary by vehicle category.

How to prevent damage

To reduce the risk of damage, we recommend the following:

• Drive carefully and responsibly
• Be aware of the vehicle’s dimensions (length, width and height)
• Pay attention to height restrictions in tunnels, bridges, parking garages and underpasses

Important to know

In some situations, damage is not covered by insurance. The main exclusions are:

• Damage caused intentionally or by reckless driving
• Damage while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Loss of keys
• Damage caused by using the wrong fuel
