The deductible

When renting a car, it’s important to know exactly what to expect. During your rental period, anything can happen, such as damage, theft, or a breakdown. In such cases, a deductible applies per incident, as specified in the rental agreement and in accordance with the applicable BOVAG rental terms and conditions.

To hit the road with peace of mind, you can easily choose an insurance package (Basic, Comfort, or Carefree) during the booking process. You’ll immediately see which coverage and terms apply to your chosen vehicle.

On this page, we explain how the deductible works so you can make an informed decision.

How does the deductible work?

At DIKS, all vehicles come standard with basic insurance, including third-party liability (TPL), comprehensive (casco) coverage, theft coverage, and 24/7 roadside assistance. This basic insurance is included in the rental price and ensures you are well protected on the road.

If you experience damage or a breakdown during the rental period, the excess may be charged. Not sure whether something is considered damage or what this includes? Please visit our damage page. In most cases, the following rules apply:

• Per incident, you pay a maximum of the agreed excess
• If the damage is lower than the excess, you only pay the actual damage amount
• If the damage can be fully recovered from an identifiable third party, you pay nothing

The amount of the excess depends on the selected insurance package, the vehicle category and your age.

Additional insurance

Would you like to reduce your risk? During the booking process, you can choose an additional insurance package. This allows you to lower the excess or, where possible, reduce it to zero. The available options may vary per vehicle. That's why, during the booking process, you can see exactly which options are available and what conditions apply to them.

Exceptions

For the Basic and Comfort insurance packages, a different (increased) deductible may apply in the situations listed below, in accordance with the BOVAG rental terms. With the Carefree package, these damages are covered and no deductible applies.
