Returning a vehicle

Your rental period has come to an end, and it’s time to return the vehicle. At DIKS, this is always possible: during or outside opening hours, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When returning the vehicle, we will inspect it and check the condition, mileage, and fuel or battery level. How the return process works depends on the moment you bring the vehicle back. Below, we explain what to expect and what you need to keep in mind.

Returning during opening hours

Returning the vehicle during opening hours? Park the vehicle at the branch and hand over the keys to a member of staff. This is also the moment to report any remarks or issues. If you noticed anything during your trip, please let us know so we can ensure the vehicle is in good condition for the next renter.

You also have the option to carry out a damage inspection together with a staff member. We recommend this, as it provides immediate clarity about the condition of the vehicle. This check is not mandatory, but it is advisable.

After inspection and processing, you will receive the invoice by e-mail, and any remaining deposit will be refunded within 2 to 4 working days.

Returning outside opening hours

You can also easily return the vehicle outside opening hours. Park the vehicle near the branch, remove your personal belongings, and make sure the vehicle is properly locked. Then place the keys in the key drop box. The location of the key box is indicated on the opening hours sign at the branch.

Our rental vehicles do not have parking permits. This means you are responsible for choosing a correct parking spot and paying any applicable parking fees. Paid parking applies at the following locations:

•  Amstelveen Noord: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 18:00
•  Amsterdam West: Monday to Saturday, 09:00 – 24:00
•  Amsterdam Westpoort: 24 hours free parking on our premises. After that, €30 per day applies
•  Amsterdam Zuid: Monday to Saturday, 09:00 – 24:00 & Sunday, 12:00 – 24:00
•  Amsterdam Zuidoost: Monday to Saturday, 09:00 – 21:00 & Sunday, 12:00 – 21:00

Please note that we will only take in and inspect the vehicle on the next working day. You remain responsible for the vehicle until this has been done. After inspection and processing, you will receive the invoice by e-mail, and any remaining deposit will be refunded within 2 to 4 working days.

Returning to a different location

Would you like to return the vehicle to a different branch than where you picked it up? In many cases this is possible, depending on availability. Please indicate this during your reservation or contact the branch to discuss the options.

Good to know when returning

We operate a fuel policy. This means you receive the vehicle with a full tank or full charge and are expected to return it the same way. If this is not the case, we will refuel or recharge the vehicle and the fuel or charging costs, along with service fees, will be added to your invoice.
