Traveling abroad with a rental car
Going on a road trip or a short trip across the border? With a rental car from DIKS, you can drive abroad, provided you’ve arranged this in advance. For travel outside the Netherlands, we charge a surcharge of €5 or €15 per rental day. The surcharge applies to the entire rental period and is always determined based on the farthest country you’ll be visiting.
When making your reservation, please indicate which countries you will be driving to, and we will ensure these countries are listed on the rental agreement. This way, you’ll be fully insured and can cross the border without any hassle.
Which countries can you travel to?
You can drive our rental cars throughout most of Europe, with the exception of the following countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Romania, Turkey, and Belarus.
Good to know
Are you traveling abroad without notifying us in advance, meaning it’s not specified in the contract? Then you are personally responsible for any costs in the event of a breakdown abroad.
As a renter, you are responsible for complying with local laws and regulations in every country you visit or travel through. This includes tolls, environmental stickers, and vignettes. Our staff can advise you on these matters, but this advice is not binding. Always make sure to check in advance.
We never provide the original vehicle registration certificate. Check in advance whether this is required in the country you plan to visit.
For comprehensive and up-to-date travel information, we refer you to the ANWB or (for freight transport) the TLN.
