Pick up a vehicle
You have reserved a car or bus. But what is actually involved when picking up a rental vehicle? On this page you will find more information about which documents you should bring with you and which driving licenses we accept or do not accept.
This way you ensure that you have the correct documents to hand when you come to pick up the rental vehicle.
Private rentals
Have you booked a vehicle for your own use? As a private individual, you must bring the following items:
- a valid driver's license
- proof of address (if you rent for the first time)
- a debit or credit card (no prepaid)
IMPORTANT: The proof of address, driver's license and debit or credit card must all be in the name of the main tenant.
1. A valid driver's license
To rent a vehicle you must have held a valid driver's license for at least 1 year.
Since 2013, all driving licenses issued in the EU have been in the same format: a plastic credit card model with a photo and advanced security features. This type of driver's license is accepted by Diks Autoverhuur.
Driving licenses older than 10 years are not accepted by Diks Autoverhuur. Although a number of paper driving licenses from abroad have a lifetime validity, Diks Autoverhuur does not accept them if they are older than 10 years.
Only driving licenses written in a non-Latin script (Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, etc.) are also not accepted. You also need to show an International Driving License (available via IDP).
2. Proof of address
When you rent for the first time or have moved, you must bring a proof of address*. This is a document with your name and home address on it. For example in the form of a (digital) bank statement, pay slip, letter from the municipality or an energy bill. This proof can't be older than 3 months.
*Do you live abroad? Then you need to bring your passport instead of a proof of address.
3. Debit or credit card
The deposit must be paid by debit or credit card*, if this has not yet been paid via iDEAL when booking. Diks Autoverhuur does not accept cash or prepaid creditcards.
*If you live abroad, payment by credit card is mandatory.
Business rentals
Are you planning to rent a car or bus for business as an entrepreneur? No problem! In addition to the above-mentioned documents, companies must submit an extract from the Chamber of Commerce (not older than 6 months). Bringing proof of address is not mandatory for business rentals.
