About us

The history of DIKS goes back to the late 1940s. In 1949, grandfather (and driving instructor) Paul Diks lent his own car to one of his former students for the first time. After all, they had their driver's license, but no car of their own.

Car rental, then an unknown phenomenon in Amsterdam, turned out to be a gap in the market. Soon there was a second car in front of the door. This led from Volkswagen vans in the sixties, for rent for fl. 22.50 guilders a day, to the reliable Mercedes buses that are still on the doorstep today.

In 1972, his son Ronald took over his father's business. It was Ronald who introduced the well-known blue vans under the motto “More blue on the street”. These buses have now become an indispensable part of the street scene, after all you see them everywhere!

The 3rd generation Diks is now working within the family business that has grown into one of the leading car rental companies in the country with four branches in Amsterdam, one in Almere and two in Amstelveen.

Our mission & vision

It is our mission to help people on their way in suitable transport. Together we ensure a pleasant, liveable and accessible neighbourhood.

DIKS believes in the power of renting & sharing. Because renting & sharing not only saves money. It is better for the environment and it creates space in the city.

Our 3 core values

Grandpa Diks said it years ago: “People want personal contact, a good price and no surprises.” With this statement he unconsciously managed to name the core values of DIKS:

  1. Personal contact - Customer-friendliness is paramount at DIKS. Our employees are involved and treat everyone with respect.

  2. A good price - According to DIKS, the added value lies in the quality offered. Only if this is good are people willing to pay the right price.

  3. No surprises - People need clarity. Whether this concerns the availability of a vehicle, the costs, rental conditions and possible consequences. That is why we think it is important that renting a vehicle is as clear, easy and familiar as possible.

In short, DIKS = Always a vehicle nearby to do what you want, when you want.
