AdBlue
AdBlue is a liquid (urea dissolved in demineralized water) used to reduce emissions of harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel vehicles. It is automatically injected into the exhaust gases and helps vehicles comply with strict European emission standards (Euro 6).
Many of our vehicles use AdBlue. The cost for AdBlue is €0.04 per kilometer driven, with a maximum of €20 (excl. VAT) per rental period. These costs will be listed on the invoice at the end of the rental. AdBlue is separate from fuel and is billed separately.
Do I need to refill the AdBlue?
Before departure, we always check whether the AdBlue tank is sufficiently filled and refill it if necessary. In principle, you don’t need to refill the AdBlue yourself. Refilling is only necessary when the vehicle indicates this via a warning on the dashboard. You must not ignore this warning, as the vehicle may otherwise fail to start.
Are you renting for a longer period or driving a lot of miles? In that case, a message may appear while driving indicating that AdBlue needs to be refilled. If this happens, refill the AdBlue immediately to prevent damage and potential liability. Keep the receipt and submit it to us. You only pay for the actual amount used, not for a full tank.
How do you refill AdBlue?
The location of the AdBlue tank varies by vehicle. In most cases, it is located next to the fuel tank or under the hood. You can identify the tank by the blue cap labeled “AdBlue”.
Warning: AdBlue must never be poured into the fuel tank. This causes serious engine damage. Not sure? Always ask the service station before refilling.
Use only AdBlue that is suitable for vehicles (ISO 22241 standard)
If you spill AdBlue, rinse it off with water to prevent crystallization
